Full-Time Web Developer/Designer

Job Description


The Web Developer/Designer reports to the Web Director as part of the University’s dedicated Marketing and Digital Communications team. The position helps to develop and implement code and design applications for Stevenson’s
responsive design external website, as well as to help identify and incorporate strategic Internet technologies and applications to meet needs in recruiting traditional and adult students. He/she will work closely with the Web Content Manager, vendors, designers, the Office of Information Technology, and internal customers, both technical and non-technical, at various levels.

Bachelor’s degree plus 4 or more years of experience in developing and implementing web application solutions or equivalent combination of experience and education.


  • Design and implement intuitive user interfaces and web templates using HTML /CSS best practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles and practices of web accessibility, responsive web design, and effective user interfaces.
  • Knowledge of HTML , XML , CSS , SQL , Cold Fusion, JavaScript, and .NET .
  • Advanced knowledge working directly with content management systems.
  • Experience with Site Executive CMS a plus.
  • Ability to design, layout, and build attractive and effective web pages, forms, payment gateways, and other end-user interfaces.
  • Ability to write efficient code and markup, test and verify results, and implement.
  • Ability to support the migration of web content from one environment to another.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues working with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to report progress and status of assigned tasks to supervisor and project teams.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and communicate with both technical and non-technical clients.
  • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to create user and technical documentation.
  • Ability to travel between campuses as needed.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Standing and/or sitting, walking, talking, hearing, and keyboarding. Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as viewing a computer terminal. Subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Occasional evenings and weekends with 24/7 availability.

Essential Functions:

Implement, configure, and support the University’s web content management system, web site analysis, search engine optimization, and compliance monitoring. Write HTML, XML, CSS, Cold Fusion, JavaScript, SQL, .Net, and other code and markup as necessary to extend the functionality and effectiveness of the University’s web sites and web forms.Design, configure, and customize new and existing web pages, interfaces, and applications.
Measure, evaluate, and improve web sites, interfaces, and applications for usability and effectiveness.
Lead and/or assist with the installation of supporting software, software patches, and upgrades.
Participate in project teams comprised of technical and non-technical team members. Prioritize and track projects, meet tight deadlines when necessary, and deliver projects on time and budget, communicating with stakeholders throughout.
