Part-Time Part-time Merit Awards Program Assistant

Job Description

The Merit Awards Assistant provides front-line support for a busy student-centered office. The Office of Merit Awards oversees the mentoring of applicants for nationally competitive, merit-based scholarships (such as the Fulbright Grant and Boren Scholarship) that help fund study abroad, graduate education, and high-level work and research experience.

The Merit Awards Assistant provides front-line service in the form of scheduling student appointments, responding to phone calls and e-mail, and greeting visitors. Other duties include promoting scholarship information sessions and workshops, preparing materials and handouts, maintaining an award database, tracking applicants and maintaining candidates’ dossiers, and assisting Merit Awards advisors with special programs and events.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for an upper-class or graduate student interested in international education, study abroad, or exchange to gain exposure to scholarship opportunities.
Educational Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Requirements:
Highly organized with strong editing and writing skills
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment
Previous experience in a customer-service position
Should be personable, dependable, willing to take initiative and work independently

The ideal candidate will be available to begin work this summer and will stay through the academic year.  Hours are based on the needs of the office, and will be approximately 20 hours a week from May-July, 30 hours a week from August-October, and 20-25 for the remainder of the academic year.
