Part-Time Bridge the Gap Program Assistant

Job Description

The Bridging the Gap (BtG) initiative is dedicated to strengthening the relationship between scholars of international relations and the broader foreign policy community. The program supports policy-relevant academic
research on international politics and provides professional development for those who wish to pursue it.

The Part-time Program Assistant provides administrative and programmatic support to the BtG team. Responsibilities include the full range of administrative and clerical functions. In addition, this person is responsible for programmatic support that may include: processing and tracking payment requests, assisting with event planning, editing, proof reading, and maintenance of the BtG webpage. The Part-time Program Assistant reports directly to BtG’s Program Manager.


Assist with event planning for BtG’s annual International Policy Summer Institute, New Era Foreign Policy
Conference, and other domestic and international events undertaken by BtG Create and maintain program, financial, and contract files, both in paper form and electronically Process and track payment requests, travel expense
reports, documents for signature, narrative and financial reports, etc.
Draft, edit, and update content for BtG’s website and monthly newsletter Research, write and edit internal and external outreach materials Assist with reconciliation of monthly departmental credit cards Provide general administrative support including mailing, scanning, faxing and copying

Educational Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Minimum Requirements:
High level of attention to detail, excellent organization, flexibility, multi-tasking, and the ability to work independently and with team members Demonstrated experience monitoring project budgets. Excellent English written and oral communication skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Experience with basic HTML on WordPress or similar
platforms Must demonstrate the ability to complete a high volume of work to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy

Preferred Requirements:
Status as a graduate student at American University
