Full-Time Parent Programs Manager

Job Description

The Illini Union at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking a talented student affairs professional to serve as the Parent Programs Manager. Founded in 1867, the Illinois campus is one of the original 37 public land-grant institutions. It is one of the top comprehensive research public universities in the nation. The successful candidate will be working on a campus with academically talented and diverse student population, including 19 percent international students, 12 percent Asian American students, 5 percent African American students, and 6 percent Hispanic/Latino students from a total enrollment over 42,000 students. As the community center of the University, the Illini Union draws together all members of the University with approximately 16,000 visits of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and guests on a daily basis.

Position Functions and Major Responsibilities:

Serve as a liaison between parents and the University, responding to parents’ questions/concerns and making appropriate referrals; Advise and work collaboratively with the Boards of the Moms and Dads Associations on programs, services, budgets, financial matters, strategic planning and other activities; Oversee the planning and implementation of various events co-sponsored with the Moms and Dads Associations including but not limited to; board meetings; Summer Registration; Moms Weekend; and Dads Weekend. Organize volunteers and collateral marketing material as needed for these events; Attend on and off-campus programs and events including but not limited to; recruitment events, informational sessions, and programs targeting specific student and family populations; Collaborate closely with other student affairs units and academic units to develop content and programming that meets the evolving needs of the diverse population of families and parents of students at Illinois; Annually assess programming and communications efforts, and make recommendations for future direction based on the analysis of assessments; Develop and maintain the database of information on parents in collaboration with the University of Illinois Foundation, including the coordination of information from Admissions and Records; Work closely with Student Affairs Advancement to promote the Parent Fund campaign; Work collaboratively with the Assistant to the Director to develop and promote the Illini Union Alumni Society; Manage and contribute to all print and digital communications, including social media outlets, Parent and Family Programs website, newsletters (print and digital), parent Resource Guide, calendars and biweekly email updates; Participate in annual strategic planning exercise; develop departmental goals and plans, oversee implementation, and track departmental progress; Develop and monitor the Parent and Family Programs Office budget in collaboration with the Assistant to the Director and Business Affairs and processes payment vouchers as needed; Supervise staff and student employees of Parent and Family Programs Office; Assume appropriate related additional duties to further the mission of the unit.

Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel Administration, Counseling or closely related field; minimum of three years’ experience in a university environment; at least three years’ experience supervising full-time staff; at least three years of experience with budgeting and/or fiscal management; minimum of three years of experience in educational programming; substantial database experience preferred.

 

    • Demonstrated knowledge of the role parents and families play in the development and growth of college students; must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills and experience writing for digital communications and social media channels; demonstrated ability to interact effectively with senior management levels in a fast paced environment.

 

  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills along with keen attention to details preferred; fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Appointment Status: This is a 12-month, full-time academic professional position.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
