Native American Student & Community Center Program Coordinator

Job Description

Position Summary:
The Program Coordinator provides leadership to the Native  American Student and Community Center (NASCC) to maintain and enhance an environment where Native American, Alaskan Native, and Pacific Islander students see themselves reflected, embraced, and valued, and make connections to campus resources. The Program Coordinator facilitates the development and coordination of co-curricular (non-academic) programming that supports student success through community-building activities, cultural programs, leadership development, community service and engagement, and identity development. The Program Coordinator facilitates student involvement in planning and
implementing programs in the NASCC and with other cultural resource centers on campus. The Coordinator
collaborates with student groups, on campus departments, and Native American/Alaskan Native/Pacific Islander
community organizations to advance the mission of the center. The position reports to the Executive Director of
Cultural Resource Centers.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant discipline

  • Experience organizing and planning programs and/or workshops
  • Experience working with Native American, Alaskan Native and Pacific Islander students/populations;
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and diverse cultures;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Competency with basic computer application, e-mail, etc.
  • Working knowledge of developing training on topics such as running meetings, group development, budgeting, etc.
  • Listening and mentoring skills; motivational skills
  • Knowledge of student programming, student services and activities; and community service programs
  • Interpersonal skills and cross-cultural communication skills working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Organizational skills to strategist and develop short and long term plans
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and tasks, to juggle various projects and issues at the same time, and to work
    with a minimal amount of direct supervision.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in relevant discipline (student affairs, higher education, public administration, social work,
counseling, ethnic studies, etc.) with 3 or more years providing retention services to multicultural students;
Knowledge of PSU and the Portland and Oregon Native American/Alaskan Native/Pacific Islander communities and
Knowledge/experience with social media
