Full-Time Junior Accountant

Job Description

The Junior Accountant reports directly to the Associate Vice President and Controller.

•Obtain, reconcile and process AC1370 Revenue Collections on a weekly basis.
•Obtain, reconcile and distribute daily bank report.
•Work closely with Associate Vice President in processing General Ledger reconciliations and journal entries.
•Perform monthly bank statement reconciliation, monthly accounts receivable report/analysis and general ledger
•Work closely with Bursar and Financial Aid Offices in processing refund checks and track outstanding checks.
•Assist other Business Affairs departments with processing of accounts receivable, accounts payable, budget and payroll when needed.
•Process funds transfers to the Student Government Association (SGA), Auxiliary Services Corporation (ASC), bookstore vendor and others.
•Maintain Petty Cash Advance Log.
•Liaise with SUNY System Administration, Office of State Controller personnel and other external parties as needed.
•Assist with NYS and College quarterly reporting and fiscal year-end closings.
•Maintain files in an organized and up-to-date manner.
•Maintain excellent customer relations – timely respond to questions and follow-up on missing/outstanding items.
•Perform other functions consistent with the job title as necessary and as directed by the Associate Vice President.


Minimum Qualifications:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.

•Two (2) or more years of work experience in a business office setting required.

•Demonstrated work experience in accounting, accounts payable, budget and/or payroll required.

•Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and other software applications required.

•Strong analytical and organizational skills, ability to multi-task, be project oriented, and ability to work
independently is required.

•Excellent verbal and writing skills.

•Ability to foster effective working relationships with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and

Preferred Qualifications:
•SUNY or other higher education experience.
•Experience working with the New York Statewide Financial System.
•Experience working with Ellucian Banner (including Student, Finance and Financial Aid modules).
