Part-Time Instructional Support Assistant

Job Description

As a member of Media Services, the Instructional Support Assistant will support various audiovisual technologies in the academic, administrative, research, and event production environments at SUNY Old Westbury.  This is a part-time position, 18.75 hours per week, weekdays late afternoon/evening hours with availability for weekends as required.


  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with set-up and maintenance of audiovisual systems and equipment, as well as computers and related hardware/software.
    Set-up and operate audiovisual and computer equipment for academic, administrative, and student events.
    Maintain, analyze, troubleshoot, and install audiovisual and computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals, including but not limited to networking equipment, printers, mobile devices (laptops, iPhone, iPad, Android, etc.), projectors, a/v switchers, cameras, and cable connections.
    Maintain audiovisual systems inventories and repair records.
    Process and track service desk repair and maintenance requests. Document failures of audiovisual, workstation, and peripheral equipment and resolutions.
    Assist in scheduling and overseeing student employees.

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree (may be substituted with additional related support experience) and two (2) years of related support experience.
    Strong interpersonal skills and customer service orientation.
    Ability to coordinate, manage, and consult with persons from all levels to facilitate the use of audiovisual technology in the classroom, office, computer labs, and other special purpose computing areas.
    Demonstrated technical troubleshooting skills and knowledge of audiovisual technology. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
    Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    Ability to work late afternoon/evening hours and occasional weekends as required by the College.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in audio/video production, media, computer science, or a related area, and two (2) to three (3) years of related experience.
    Experience supporting audiovisual production for events and conferences.
    Knowledge of audiovisual systems installation and repair, Crestron/Extron certifications, CTS certification, CompTIA A+ certification.
    Experience as a camera operator.
    Experience with stage lighting and rigging.
    Experience working in video, media, or TV production.
    Experience working in higher education.
    Experience managing student support staff.
    Knowledge of ITIL/ITSM frameworks.
