Full-Time Instructional Design Librarian

Job Description

Position Description: The Southwest
Minnesota State University McFarland Library seeks a
proactive, team-oriented, and innovative person to serve as
Instructional Design Librarian. The ideal candidate will
have the ability to work collaboratively and creatively with
library and university faculty to plan, develop, and deliver
library instruction and provide instructional design support
to university faculty. This position offers an exciting
opportunity to work in a new environment featuring blended
library and academic technology services. This new position
serves a dual role as a librarian supporting faculty, staff,
and students through library instruction and research
services as well as supporting the university faculty as an
instructional design specialist. The Instructional Design
Librarian will provide one-on-one professional and
consulting services to faculty in the design and development
of hybrid and fully online courses. S/he will develop and
support training activities for best practices of utilizing
instructional technology tools and designing online courses.
The Instructional Design Librarian will participate in
professional activities (e.g., meetings, conferences) and
will be a member of both the library and Information
Technology Services (ITS) teams. In addition, the
Instructional Design Librarian will work collaboratively
with Extended Learning and Academic Outreach to support
effective delivery of the University’s distance learning
programs. Duties may include some evening and weekend hours.

 

Qualifications

 

Required Qualifications:

 

 

    • Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited
      program.

 

    • Bachelor’s degree in Education Technology, Instructional
      Design, Education or related field.

 

    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and
      collaboratively.

 

    • Academic library experience.

 

    • Five (5) years of professional experience in an
      education services/programming delivery environment.

 

    • Knowledge of educational pedagogy and learning
      theories.

 

    • Knowledge of emerging technologies, standards, and their
      applications to distance education.

 

    • Proficiency with a variety of academic technologies
      (hardware, software, multimedia, and web-based
      applications).

 

    • Practical knowledge of and experience with D2L or
      alternative instructional management system.

 

    • Must have an understanding of and appreciation for
      liberal education. The University is committed to fostering

Preferred Qualifications:

 

 

    • Online teaching experience.

 

    • Experience in the systematic design of instruction for
      online, blended/hybrid and/or traditional courses.

 

    • Experience designing, developing, and delivering
      training programs and workshops on teaching methods and
      technology utilization in the classroom.

 

    • Experience using computer-based technology in
      educational environments.

 

    • Knowledge of ADA compliance in online and blended/hybrid
      courses.

*Nine Month Appointments- Along with all other
Universities that are part of the Minnesota State Colleges
and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are
for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive
months. The nine months need not align with the traditional
academic year and may be changed every two years. Initial
faculty appointments at SMSU are expected to be similar to
or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated
