Part-Time Graduate Assistant: Men’s Rugby Program

Job Description

Graduate Assistant:  Men’s Rugby programFunctioning in the capacity of an Assistant Coach, this position is responsible for assisting with all operational, administrative and coaching needs of the Men’s Rugby Program.  Generally, the hours for this position will vary depending on the practice and game schedule. The incumbent must be flexible to meet the department’s needs as early mornings, evenings and weekends will be required.

The graduate assistant receives a 15-credit-per-year tuition waiver, University housing, and a $3,000 stipend in return for their services to the Men’s Rugby program.   The successful candidate must be admissible to an SBU on-campus graduate degree program.

QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate possesses a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution; preferred experience in coaching scrums and lineouts at the collegiate level and higher; advanced skill with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook; a clean and valid driver’s license; and the ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

•             Assists in coaching men’s rugby team, teaching players directly

•             Assists with the technical, physical and skill development for individual players

•             Coordinates social media, on-campus and local communications/promotions

•             Coordinates Recruit visits

•             Coordinates team filming

•             Assists in coordinating campus/off campus service projects

•             Collaborates with club officers on fundraising ideas and procedures

•             Assists team manager and with administrative duties as needed

•             Provides supervision when head coach is not present

•             Provides academic support for the well-being and retention of rugby student athletes

•             Tracks academic progress and attendance in all academic matters
