Full-Time Executive Director of Hospitality Services

Job Description

The University of New Hampshire (UNH), the state’s
flagship research university, is consistently ranked among
the top 50 public universities by U.S. News & World Report
and is one of a select few institutions with land-, sea-,
and space-grant designations. Located near the Atlantic
coast in the college town of Durham, about an hour’s drive
from Boston and Portland, Maine, UNH combines the look and
feel of a classic New England college with the breadth and
depth of a research university. An additional campus is
located in Manchester, and the UNH School of Law is
located in Concord. The institution enrolls 15,000
students, has a full-time faculty of 600, and offers 95
undergraduate and 68 graduate programs in eight colleges
and schools.

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Business
Affairs, the Executive Director of Hospitality Services is
responsible for the strategic oversight and administration
of an expanding hospitality organization providing
extensive board plan meal service, retail services,
conferences, catering, concessions, and nutrition
education to the campus community. The Executive Director
supervises the management team and culinary group in
shaping menus and services to meet the needs of students
and the administration; develops and implements a vision
that accommodates the diverse dining needs of the
university community while creating a service culture
throughout the hospitality program; maintains productive
relationships with students, faculty, staff, and
administrators; and develops an organizational strategy
that facilitates the expansion of the mission of the
hospitality program and the university. Total annual
revenue for all business enterprises supervised by the
Executive Director exceeds $34 million, with approximately
1,000 part-time and full-time employees.

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree
or equivalent and a minimum of eight years of experience
in the management of institutional food service. The
successful candidate also will have excellent
organizational and communication skills; demonstrated
leadership in the areas of financials, strategic planning,
problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration, workforce
planning, employee development, and regulatory compliance;
a commitment to quality and integrity; and a demonstrated
ability to collaborate and create partnerships. In
addition, the successful candidate will possess the
ability and willingness to delegate effectively and to
hold direct reports accountable; be a strong decision-
maker, with transparency in decision-making and
management; the ability to make good, consistent, and fair
decisions (based on fact and data); and the ability to
work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.
