Full-Time Executive Dean of Student Development and Learning Resources

Job Description

Position Summary
Embraces diversity and actively collaborates effectively
with a variety of students, staff and the public from
diverse cultural, social, economic and educational backgrounds;
Provides strong leadership and represents the division
through a participatory management style, team-building
activities, and problem solving techniques;
Provides leadership for the recruitment and hiring of
outstanding staff to enhance the capacity and diversity of
the college; supports innovative staff development to ensure
continual learning; provides effective evaluation of
administrators to promote continuous professional growth;
recommends the retention, non-retention, promotion, or
reassignment of existing staff;
Embraces appropriate technology tools to accomplish job
functions; understands and utilizes available technology as
communication and data gathering tools;
Responsible for direct coordination, supervision, and
evaluation of management level Deans and Directors within
the division;
Serves on Executive Team, Instruction and Student Services
division (ISS), Resource Team, Administrative Team and other
college committees;
Provides leadership in and contributes to the college’s
diversity plan by fostering an environment of cooperation
between students, staff and the public who represent a
variety of cultural, social, economic, and educational
Collaboratively plans, develops, and monitors division
goals, policies and strategic plans; interprets decisions
and policy formulation to staff, students, and the public;
Cooperatively develops, monitors, and manages division
budget; coordinates long-range budget planning, including
interdivisional budget transfers; reviews college budget
planning and spending;
Actively participates in the development and implementation
of strategies and programs to support student success and
assumes a leadership role within the Student Development and
Learning Resources division;
Motivates and encourages staff to actively participate in
continuous improvement activities in order to facilitate
delivery of effective, high-quality services to both
internal and external customers. May be asked to learn,
lead, and use Lean practices;
Builds and promotes effective teams to support the
instructional and service mission of the college; employees
effective interpersonal skills to empower staff in the
performance of their work; maintains a working knowledge of
all negotiated agreements, institutional policies and
regulations and procedures; participates in collective
bargaining with employee associations as a representative of
the college;
Serves as designated lead for college Threat Assessment
Team (TAT), Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and Trauma
Response Team (TRT);
Administers oversight of the Student Rights and
Responsibilities and Code of Conduct; serves as resource to
students and staff on appeals processes; takes lead role in
responding to student disciplinary issues, including
conducting the adjudication process, and imposing subsequent
sanctions, as necessary;
Provides direction to meet and maintain accreditation
Effectively represents college in community service
activities and partnerships, state-wide organizations,
committees and task forces
Serves as designated lead for the college Retention
Advisory Team (RAT); responsible for managing Student
Retention Plan, as part of the master Academic Plan (MAP);
serves on college Student Success Steering Committee;
Attends board meetings as a member of the college staff;
participates by reporting and discussing matters pertinent
to student affairs at the college; represents the college at
local, state, and/or national levels;
Performs all other duties as assigned

The successful candidate will have:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent
in Education, Counseling, or a similar program in student
services administration

Five years’ broad-based experience as an
administrator in an accredited college or college district
or equivalent (such as business, community based
organizations, etc.); a record of accomplishments in
planning, budgeting, and managing personnel; demonstrated
success in educational leadership and/or community
leadership; broad based experience in building collaborative
community partnerships
