Job Description

The Office of Community Engagement at Old Dominion
University is seeking candidates for a Public Relations and
Marketing Specialist III position.

Objective: This position will coordinate all elements
of community engagement initiatives and outreach to promote
the University image and emphasize academic quality,
research advancements and to foster community
partnerships—to attain regional, national and international
visibility for the University.

Required Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience in public relations, event
planning and project management.
• Experience working with support personnel as well as high
level dignitaries and community stakeholders.
• Working knowledge of public relations principles and
• Working knowledge of computer software such as MS Office
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to organize and maintain accurate
• Demonstrated ability to serve as a liaison with diverse
clients and companies to develop strong business partnerships.
• Demonstrated ability to deal with diverse publics and
community groups and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate and supervise events
and outreach activities, ranging from small cultivation
events to large university-wide lectures, conferences and
• Demonstrated ability to compose, design invitations, menus
and promotional publications.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Knowledge of state policies and procedures.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree Preferred
Work Experience: 2-4 Years
