Full-Time Director of University Safety

Job Description

Job Responsibilities and Duties: Reporting to the Dean of Student Experience, the Director of University Safety serves as the unit head for the University Safety Department. The director oversees the provision of safety and security to the Manchester University campuses, and is responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the department.

Essential Job Functions:
• Train, schedule, and direct the activities of officers, administrative assistants, receptionists, student patrol and other employees.
• Serve as liaison with emergency service providers (police, fire, ambulance services, etc.).
• Provide liaison between officials from local, county and State agencies and the University.
• In close collaboration with the Parkview Health System Security Office, coordinate safety and security operations on the Fort Wayne campus.
• Oversee the investigations of crimes and incidents and/or university infractions, and maintain records and statistical data for reporting and disclosure purposes.
• Provide oversight and direction of the security for University events.
• Provide oversight and direction of the traffic/parking enforcement program.
• Provide direction and oversight for the auto registration program.
• Provide oversight of the University’s emergency radio communications systems.
• Provide compliance advice regarding OSHA regulations.
• Oversee the University key control and lock services program.
• Chair and advise the University Safety Committee.
• Oversee and maintain lost and found program.
• Prepare and monitor University Safety budgets.
• Ensure compliance with federal regulations and Clery reporting.
• Assist in Campus patrols when needed.

Secondary Job Functions
• Assist the Dean of Student Experience in matters of student conduct.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Dean of Student Experience.

Qualifications:
• Associate’s Degree in criminal justice, public administration, psychology, or related field of study required; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferred.
• Previous college or university experience preferred.
• Must possess a current driver’s license, with a good driver’s record.
• Must possess word processing skills and at least a moderate level of proficiency in the use of computers. Microsoft Office experience and understanding required.
• Must be proficient in spoken and written English, verbal and written communications, and a good public speaker.
• Must possess strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact and work with students, parents, employees, and visitors.
• Must have demonstrated consistent use of good judgment in decision making, able to respond to a variety of difficult situations, and able to defuse volatile situations.
• Must be able to maintain the confidentially of sensitive information.
• Must be able to consistently present a positive attitude and promote harmonious team environment.
• A strong commitment to excellent customer service is required.
• Advanced conflict management skills
• Excellent listening and other communications skills

Preferred Skills:
• Good working knowledge of constitutional law, criminal and traffic codes, University policies, and department policies and procedures.
• Able to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness.
• Knowledgeable in the use of a police radio, other emergency equipment and emergency notification systems.
• Expert knowledge of Clery Act, Title IX, Campus SAVE ACT, and other relevant federal regulations.
• Highly self-directed, well organized, detail oriented, and able to complete tasks with a minimum degree of supervision.

Work Schedule: This is a full time, exempt position, forty (40) hours per week, with a regular schedule of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Additional hours or schedule changes may be required occasionally, depending on the demands of the job and the needs of the University.
