Full-Time Director of the Intercultural Center

Job Description

Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Student Life, the
Director of the Intercultural Center provides strategic and
operational leadership, vision and direction for developing
comprehensive educational opportunities for students through
programs, services, and resources that raise cultural
competency and help build a diverse and inclusive community.
Within the Division of Student Life and across campus, the
Director of the Intercultural Center collaborates to deepen
campus-wide understanding and integration of issues relevant
to historically underrepresented and traditionally
marginalized communities as a form of social justice. The
Director of the Intercultural Center Sets benchmarks to
establish the IC as a campus-wide clearinghouse for all
diversity and inclusive excellence programs.


1. Management & Supervision: Develop and implement the
IC’s mission, goals, and learning outcomes. Hire, train,
supervise, and evaluate the Assistant Director and
Coordinator. Responsible for providing professional
development opportunities to provide tools for staff to
implement departmental mission and goals. Fiscal Management:
Responsible for setting budgetary priorities and allocating
funds to support departmental mission and goals. Oversees
the Associated Students of Saint Mary’s College (ASSMC)
allocation for the Diversity Fund. Research and pursue
external grant funding to supplement annual budget

2. Diversity and Leadership Development: Provides goals for
establishing the Intercultural Center as the diversity
clearinghouse for the College. In collaboration with
Institutional Research and Human Resources, responds to
campus needs based on data from campus climate surveys,
current research and input from campus constituencies to
develop opportunities for staff and faculty that will
address emerging trends and specific topics as needed.
Responsible for setting the vision for long-term and
short-term goals for multiple leadership and diversity
opportunities for the College including, but not limited to,
an annual retreat for the Diversity Organization Council
(DOC), on-going professional development opportunities for
staff and faculty.

3. Campus Relations: Collaborates with, and advises,
college-wide leadership to develop policies and practices of
diversity, cultural competency, and inclusive excellence.
Builds relationships with academic deans and faculty to
assist with integrating diversity and inclusive excellence
into the curriculum and providing programming that expands
learning beyond the classroom. Collaborates with Student
Life to implement and achieve institutional goals set forth
by CCIE – (such as Academic Blueprint, etc.). Serves on
campus-wide committees dedicated to improving the campus
climate around issues of diversity and inclusivity,
including but not limited to the College Committee on
Inclusive Excellence (CCIE) the High Potential Advisory
Board and Social Justice Coordinating Committee.

4. Assessment: OIR, Campus Climate, department. Guided by
the office of Institutional Research, establishes assessment
methods for all Intercultural Center programs and services
in order to determine how stated mission, goals and student
learning outcomes are being met. (B) Evaluate Intercultural
Center services and programs for effectiveness and make
changes in order to achieve college goal of Inclusive

5. External Relations: Partners with external constituencies
that have a strong diversity and inclusive excellence
missions to develop programming and explore funding
opportunities. Develops support from alumni constituencies
by fostering relationships to strengthen services for
current students and build support networks within
traditionally marginalized and underrepresented communities.
Represents the college to local and national organizations
through presentations and participation in conferences and
professional organizations.

Experience and Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Education, Sociology, Ethnic Studies.

A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in Student
Affairs, specifically Multicultural experience in a higher
education setting. Supervisory experience a must
