Full-Time Director of Student Development-Harlaxton College (England)

Job Description

Harlaxton College in the United Kingdom seeks a Director
of Student Development (Student Welfare Officer) to begin
no later than July 1, 2016.

A Master’s degree with a relevant qualification must be
in hand at the time of appointment. Additional
requirements include at least one year of student
development/welfare work experience in a higher education
setting of which at least six months must have been
gained at a college or university with an American
curriculum and American residential life and student
development program. Applicants must also possess
international education or study abroad work experience.
Living in residence, in a one-bedroom flat on the grounds
of Harlaxton Manor, is also a condition of employment.

This is a full-time, year-round, appointment that
includes normal UK holiday benefits. Compensation,
equivalent to £27,800 (approximately $41,000), consists
of £20,000 in salary, plus housing, meals, and
availability of a pension.

The Director of Student Development is a member of the
Harlaxton Cabinet (Senior Leadership Team), the Faculty
Council, and the Health and Safety committee. S/he is
the staff liaison to the Student Life committee of the
Harlaxton Advisory Council and interacts frequently with
the U.S.-based Director of Harlaxton Programs. The
Director of Student Development is responsible for a
portfolio that includes residence life; student arrivals,
departures and travel; a Meet-a-Family program; health
and counseling services; student orientation and
activities (including sport and the House system);
student leadership development; and student discipline.
The Director supervises a staff that includes an
Assistant Director, two interns, and an office
administrator/coordinator.

The successful candidate must possess a demonstrable
record of achievement in student development in a
collegiate residential setting and preferably will have
held a leadership role in a U.S. student life, study
abroad, or residence hall team. Evidence of a
candidate’s ability to connect and integrate student
life, academic life, and travel should be featured in an
application. Instances showing the applicant’s work on
projects designed to promote the characteristics of
responsible global citizenship should also be
highlighted.
