Full-Time Director of Major Gifts

Job Description

The Office of Development at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Director of Major Gifts (full-time, 12 month) position. This position provides supervision, direction, and training of Major Gift Officers (MGOs) at the University. This position will also develop, coordinate, and implement cultivation and solicitation plans for individuals and selected foundation and corporate major gift prospects rated $25,000 and more.

Required Education: Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with experience that equates to a master’s degree.

Required Qualifications: Considerable experience managing fundraising staff. Considerable experience working as a development officer with management experience, or considerable corporate sales and management experience. Experience working in a higher education environment or non-profit organization in a fund-raising position. Experience developing and implementing fund-raising strategies. Experience with cultivation and solicitation process in securing major gifts. Successful track record in securing gifts of $25,000 or more. Organization, communication, and diplomacy skills in working with university administrators and faculty, Board members and major gift prospects. Ability to draft high quality solicitation proposals and letters.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience managing professional staff, preferably fund raisers in a higher education setting.
