Full-Time Director of Facilities, Housing and Dining Services

The Director of Facilities in Housing & Dining Services provides strategic leadership and administrative oversight for the operation and maintenance of over 2.1 million sq. ft. of Housing & Dining Services facilities including 15
residence halls housing over 6,000 students, 4 apartments communities with 1,119 apartments, 6 dining centers and a bakeshop, a warehouse/food storeroom, the Housing Services Center, the Palmer Center Administrative Offices, and the CSU Mountain Campus. The position oversees approximately 200 full-time staff members (with 7 direct reports), 50 hourly and student employees, an operating budget in excess of $16.8 million, and functional areas of responsibility include: facility planning, capital construction, renovation projects, building maintenance, custodial/environmental services, warehouse/food storeroom, materials/supplies, trades staff, contractor engagement and management, utility crew, fleet vehicles, and projects crew. The Director administers capital improvement and replacement programs, renovation plans, sustainable and “green” maintenance and environmental services operations, deferred and preventative maintenance strategies, and energy/resource/utility consumption analyses and projections. The Director sets organizational goals, assesses employee performance, provides training and professional development opportunities for staff, and monitors the quality of services provided by staff and contractors with a focus on excellent customer service and a student-centered approach. The new Director must have a strong understanding of, and commitment to diversity and the creation of inclusive work and living environments. This is a high profile position and the Director meets regularly with other HDS units and university offices including University Facilities Management, Campus Planning, and Risk Management.

Housing & Dining Services is a comprehensive auxiliary enterprise and, in addition to this Directors’ area, includes Residence Life; Apartment Life; Dining Services; Conference and Event Services; Technology & RamCard Office; CSU’s Mountain Campus; Communications and Sustainability; Diversity, Inclusion and Assessment; Human Resources; Staff Training; Business Services; and HDS Administration. HDS is a campus leader in sustainability. The department employs 450 full-time and 1300 part-time and student staff, and has an annual operating budget of over $90 million. The position reports to the Executive Director of Housing & Dining Services, serves as a key member of the senior leadership team, and contributes to the overall success of the department.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree; progressive significant experience in facilities management,
including operation and maintenance of building systems, facility maintenance and upkeep, construction and renovation projects, personnel management, budget management, customer service, resource allocation; and strong written communication skills. Preferred qualifications include additional facilities certifications (e.g. CPE—Certified Planner Estimator, CEFP—Certified Educational Facilities Professional (APPA), General Contractor, Construction Project Manager, etc.); experience in higher education residential communities, including dining centers; demonstrated ability to supervise diverse staff; strong verbal communication skills; bilingual (Spanish)
communication skills; experience implementing “best practices” related to building operations including the
development of tactical plans to address deferred maintenance.
