Full-Time Director, Children’s Learning and Research Center

Job Description

The Children’s Learning and Research Center (CLRC) at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Director (full-time, 12 month) position. The Director of the CLRC will manage all operations at the center including budget, purchasing, enrollment, hiring, and supervision of University employees. This position has responsibility for
the financial and instructional success of the facility as well as creating and maintaining a positive work environment.

Required Education: Master’s degree in early childhood education, child development or related field from an accredited college or university. Current pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.

Required Qualifications: Experience in administration of a Child Development program or similar program.
Considerable experience as a teacher of children from 0 to 6 years old. Demonstrated skill in managing and supervising day-to-day business operations of an early care and learning center, including personnel management, parent education, staff training, and developing and maintaining a budget, analyzing financial statements and project costs. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of NAEYC standards and accreditation process. Ability to actively engage in the planning and construction of the new building ensuring that the environment is appropriate for children, families and staff and in compliance with all NAEYC and licensing regulations. Demonstrated knowledge of the roles and relationships of federal, state and local regulatory agencies in the administration of an early care center to ensure compliance with all health, nutrition, fire and safety standards. Demonstrated skills in building and maintaining interdisciplinary teams of teachers, parents, faculty and other stakeholders to promote the mission and vision of the center. Demonstrated professional knowledge of child development principles to develop, implement, and supervise curriculum and age-appropriate activities for a program that promotes social, emotional, intellectual and physical growth of children. Demonstrated ability to provide support for all families and work effectively with parents through advisory groups, new parent support and orientation, and multiple communication means to ensure openness and inclusion. Demonstrated effective writing and verbal communication skills including the ability to facilitate group discussions, problem solving and group decision making. Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and an understanding of and commitment to issues of diversity, and social justice.

Preferred Qualifications: Ability to inspire, motivate and provide visionary leadership for the Children’s School community.
