Full-Time Director of Campus Ministry

Job Description

Position Summary: The Director is responsible for overseeing all ministry programs and efforts in fostering a vibrant faith-based community. The director is responsible for the administration of the Department of Campus Ministry, including but not limited to program development, assessment, marketing, and communication.

Essential Responsibilities:

1. Administrator oversight of the Campus Ministry budget, supervise Campus Ministry staff members, develop and implement policies and programs in reflection of the USCCB Empowered by the Spirit in connection with the work of the New Evangelization. Network and communicate among various diverse constituents of the University and the Diocese of Joliet. Serve as a liaison (committee member or leader) to key areas of the University – Student Life, Admissions and St. Procopius Abbey. Collaborate with ACBU and ACCU institutions on common ministry practices and maintain Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA) membership. Lead Campus Ministry staff meetings.

2. Supervise Peer Ministry Program and is responsible for fostering the main pillars of that program – Retreats and Training, Formation Activities, Participation in Faith Community, Faithful Living, Communication, Service to the Department and Programming.

3. Assist the Coordinator of Retreats and Faith Formation with the Koinonia Retreat, through formation for student leadership team and providing guidance for the students during the retreat.

4. Meet regularly with faith-based student group advisors and students and consult with Ministry staff, Student Life, Academic Affairs, the Interfaith Cooperation Committee and CMI advisory board to support and regularly review the appropriateness of programs sponsored by groups with a religious focus (such as MSA, HSA, CRU, Mosaic).

5. Facilitate intercultural faith community building through mentorship and leadership development programs for faith-based student groups; strengthen, participate and facilitate Catholic Muslim Dialogue and other intra and interfaith groups; and to assist CMI and the Interfaith Cooperation Committee with interfaith programming. Maintain a supervisory relationship with approved religious leaders representative of the University’s diverse religious community.

Education: Master’s Degree in Theology or Pastoral Studies from accredited institution.

Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years of ministerial leadership. Ability to show sensitivity in handling confidential information. Must be Catholic, active in the faith, while competent with working with persons of many cultures, ethnicities and religious traditions.

Specific Skills: Administrative skills, computer literacy, oral and written communication skills, supervisory skills and collaborative skills. Possess high energy for the college temperament. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media and various web applications.

Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications: Roman Catholic in good standing, knowledgeable in Church teaching. Has knowledge and understanding of the Benedictine wisdom tradition. USCCB Catholic Campus Ministry Association (CCMA) Certification preferred.

Supervisory Responsibility (if applicable): Supervises staff

Working Conditions: Available weekends and outside of normal hours
