Full-Time Counselor – Wellness Center

Job Description

Reporting to the Director of the SBU Center for Student
Wellness, the Counselor has the responsibility for
providing consultation, counseling and referral services to
the entire University Community. This is a 9-month,
part-time position.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology,
Counselor Education, Social Work, or related field required.
Prior counseling experience with college student population
and/or experience dealing with women’s crisis issues
preferred. Skilled in providing training to college aged

• Provide counseling (both individual and group) and
service as a support and resource for students and their
families; provide information concerning the various
community agencies and University departments which offer
support services in such areas as medical treatment and
special educational arrangements.
• Provide counseling services during daytime hours
• Provide educational workshops, advocacy, and
information regarding mental/emotional health and wellness
issues Develop and present educational and preventive
programs to address student life issues.
• Serve on University and division committees as
deemed appropriate.
• Develop and present educational programs to address
theme-oriented issues.
The individual holding this position may need to be
available early morning, evening and weekends to meet the
needs of the department. This position is classified as an
essential employee for emergency response purposes.

In this position, he/she would be expected to have or
possess the ability to handle highly confidential material,
understanding that all University information should only be
disclosed to others who have a need to know, for
legitimate business reasons. Must have the ability to
exercise and apply sound judgment and decision making
skills as well as the ability to maintain integrity and
confidentiality of data.

Solid knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Specifically,
Word, Excel and Outlook) as well as the ability to stay
current with emerging office technologies is required.
