Full-Time Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction Programs

Job Description

Tacoma Community College (TCC) is pleased to invite applications for Coordinator of Supplemental Instruction
Programs. This position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily operations of the Supplemental
Instruction (SI) Program. The mission of the SI Program is to assist students with historically difficult courses by
providing group tutoring and mentoring to facilitate student success. Responsibilities include promoting SI services to students and instructors; recruiting, hiring, training and supervising SI leaders, monitoring SI sessions, conducting ongoing training and feedback meetings as well as designing and conducting program evaluations. The SI Coordinator will strive to meet the College goal of increasing student success with emphasis on lower completion courses and diminishing the achievement gap in all courses.

Tacoma Community College is a comprehensive state-supported community college servicing more than 720,000 residents of the Tacoma-Pierce County area and enrolling approximately 18,000 students annually (6,000 FTE). The College’s service district includes all of Tacoma and the Pierce County portion of the Olympic Peninsula and serves the Tacoma and Peninsula school districts. TCC is one of 34 community and technical colleges in a statewide system. Located in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, just south of Seattle. Minimum qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
• One (1) year experience providing academic support services to adult students in the form of instruction,
Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, or similar academic support program or service.
• One (1) year experience in successfully planning, implementing and evaluating new programs and initiatives.
• Computer literacy; experience using computers to manage data. Intermediate word processing and spreadsheet skills.
• Supervisory and/or management experience.
• Knowledge of Student Development Theory and practice.
• Experience planning, managing, reconciling, and administering budgets.

Preferred qualifications include:

• Master’s degree in Education or closely related field from an accredited college or university.
• Previous SI experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience working with at risk or under-prepared students.
• Knowledge of student leadership development and theory.
• Experience working in the community college setting.

This is a full time exempt professional position contracted on an annual basis. The salary of this position is $48,000 – 54,000 annually DOE/DOQ. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual number of contract days worked in the remainder of the year. Closing date: 01/16/17 11:59 PM
