Job Description

The coordinator will provide academic advising to student-

athletes on assigned teams, including football, to include

scheduling of classes, major selection, and required exams

for enrollment/graduation to ensure students are making

satisfactory progress towards their degree. The coordinator

will monitor academic progress for continuing eligibility

and graduation, coordinate travel letters distribution,

produce academic grade reports, monitor study hall hours,

and oversee mentoring of at-risk student-athletes. The

coordinator will assist in the recruitment process, keep

current with changes in NCAA and university policies, and

will maintain daily communication with students and coaches

on assigned teams in regards to academic development.


• Supervise the Academic Mentor Program, including the

hiring, training and scheduling of graduate academic


• Supervise a graduate assistant to work with assigned teams

• Ability to present clear and concise information both

orally and in written form.

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including

database and spreadsheet computer applications.

• Understand that rules compliance is a critical element of

this position and adhere to NCAA, Conference, UCF and UCFAA

rules, regulations and policies.

• Ability to work with students, staff and faculty from

diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

• Attend all ASSA staff meetings, SDES and UCFAA meetings

as requested or assigned by Director of ASSA and

collaborate with other offices on campus as necessary.

• Assist ASSA and UCFAA staff members with other

assignments, events and special projects to include

managing study hall area, recognition ceremonies and awards

nomination, orientations, Student Services programming,

books distribution and collection, etc.

• The coordinator will perform other duties as assigned by

the Director of ASSA.

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization

and one year of related experience; or a bachelor’s degree

in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of

appropriate experience.


• Experience working with football student-athletes at the

Division I level.

• Prefer selected candidate to possess experience working

with at-risk student-athletes in an academic support

environment to including mentoring and advising.

• Familiarity with coordinating a study hall or a computer

lab is preferred.

• Prefer candidate to have experience with tutorial

programming and planning

• Familiarity with NCAA progress rules, excellent

communication and organizational skills, and the ability to

work with a diverse population and with a dynamic staff in

a fast-paced environment.

Special Conditions

Master’s degree in Education, counseling or an appropriate

area of specialization with one year of experience working

with football; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate

area of specialization and three years of appropriate

experience, at least one year working with football.

Candidate must possess minimum qualifications by the time

of hire. Be available to travel with assigned teams and

work evening and weekends. The selected candidate must

comply with all NCAA, Conference, UCF, UCFAA rules,

regulations, and policies.
