Full-Time Community Development Specialist

Job Description

The Department of Residence Life and Housing at the State
University of New York at Oswego invites applications for a
twelve-month live-on position as a Community Development
Specialist (CDS). A member of the department’s Management
Team, the CDS is a mid-level manager whose primary
responsibility is supervision of full-time professional
Residence Hall Directors. SUNY Oswego is proud of its

All residence halls are staffed by full-time professionals
who foster a positive and dynamic educational experience.

The Community Development Specialist (CDS) is responsible
for supervision of live-in residence hall staff as they
execute departmental objectives, assess their
effectiveness, identify areas in need of improvement and
implement changes as appropriate. The primary focus of the
position is the supervision of the staff and program in
assigned residence halls/apartments with a combined
population of approximately 1400 residents. The CDS’s work
schedule is intended to provide a presence during peak
student contact hours, including evenings and weekends.

In addition, this position will be expected to possess
communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work
effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students
and colleagues.

Starting salary is $44,530. In addition, the State
University of New York provides an excellent benefit
package. A furnished apartment is provided. Meal plan

Required Qualifications: Master’s degree is required PLUS
a minimum of three years full-time post-master’s experience
in higher education/student affairs, including at least two
years as a full-time live-in professional with direct
residence hall supervision responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in College
Student Personnel or closely related field preferred.
Preference will also be given to candidates who
demonstrate: the ability to work with diverse populations;
effective supervisory, communication and organizational
skills; experience educating students within a student
conduct process; understanding and appreciation of the need
for regular interaction with students and staff; and a
commitment to assisting students in achieving academic and
personal success.
