Full-Time Community Coordinator – University of Florida

Job Description

The Student Affairs Coordinator 1 (job code 001261,
salary grade 1, salary plan TA12) described herein is a
full time professional staff member of the Department of
Housing and Residence Education (H&RE), within the
Division of Student Affairs (SA) at the University of
Florida (UF). The incumbent is responsible for a housing
public-private partnership area of 571 bed spaces and
three (3) Community Assistants. He/she serves as an
important communication link between students, staff
members, faculty members, university administrators, and
Capstone On-Campus Management’s General Manager. The
incumbent relates to the needs of a nontraditional
residence population, including professional graduate
students, staff members, and faculty members from
different backgrounds, disciplines, and cultures and is a
point of contact for the residential population. He/she
communicates effectively with this population and
provides services that enhance the apartment complex.
The incumbent is on 24-hour/day, 7-days/week “on call”
status for handling emergencies in his/her area of direct
responsibility, and in an “on-call” rotation for H&RE;
for this reason, the incumbent lives in his/her assigned
residence area–an apartment with basic amenities is
provided as a prerequisite. The incumbent’s multifaceted
role is most difficult and calls for extreme emotional
stability, excellent human relations, and administrative
skills.

[40%] – Oversees community-related concerns. Serves as
department and university resource. Primary point of
contact and identified to resident population as such.
Develops and implements a community-programming model and
maintains annual programming budget. Important
communication link between The Continuum community, H&RE,
staff members, and university administration. Maintains
a work schedule designed for maximum availability and
involvement with students. Remains available for
students during some evening hours for community meetings
and events.

[25%] – Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates three
(3) Community Assistants in the development of the
community. Designs, coordinates, and implements training
and development programs for graduate student staff.
Conducts weekly individual meetings and staff meetings.

[10%] – Performs day-to-day on-site operation processes
including (but not limited to) building tours, desk
coverage, apartment unit checks, room condition reports,
and resident move in/check-in and move out/check-out.
Identifies and reports safety and security concerns.

[10%] – Responsible for:
• Maintaining daily communication with on-site Director
of Operations and management
• Maintaining communication with students, main housing
office, faculty members, and administrators on a
continuing basis
• Being aware of, and addressing the needs of, the
community
• Being a member of the Graduate and Family Housing work
team and function as a team member
• Identifying and communicating student, staff, and
graduate community needs
• Serving as a member of housing committees and task
forces
• Providing leadership in developing a sense of community
• Initiating steps to solve problems affecting the
community
• Serving as an advisor to one or more of the student
groups or functions as assigned by the Director of H&RE
as needed
• Attending conferences and conventions as funds provide
• Being aware of new developments in his/her chosen
profession
• Being an involved member of a professional organization
• Attending departmental and SA development programs
• Participating on UF committees
• Providing leadership to the Continuum Residence Life
and Sustainability Committee
• Overseeing and charting activity expenditures in
coordination with the Director of Operations

[05%] – Responsible for administering university and
housing community standards for UF. Performs the initial
step of the disciplinary process through consultation
with the Assistant Director of Housing for Conduct and
Community Standards and the Assistant Director of Housing
for Graduate and Family Housing.
Creates/receives/reviews incident reports. Serves as an
educator during discussions with the involved resident(s)
in an attempt to instill an understanding of the
educational philosophy of the student conduct process.

in the decision-making process and to ensure campus wide
consistency.] Educates residents on Capstone On-Campus
Management’s policies and procedures.

[05%] – Maintains/increases knowledge of the facility and
communicates and collaborates with The Continuum’s public
private partner and Development Company.
