Full-Time Career Advisor, Liberal Arts

Job Description

Position Overview: The Career Advisor for Liberal Arts is a member of the O’Brien Center for Career Development’s professional staff. The Career Advisor is responsible for establishing and nurturing long-term relationships with Liberal Arts undergraduate and
graduate students beginning in their first semester on campus. The Advisor will support students’ career development through comprehensive career advising including assessment of unique skills, values, and interests; exploration of life choices and career paths; and guidance while navigating opportunities for co-ops, internships, experiential learning and the job search. The Advisor will primarily work one-on-one with students
through advising appointments, but may also spend time in the classroom and collaborating on team programs. The Advisor will serve as a liaison to academic departments and a conduit for the flow of communication to identify student needs and communicate opportunities. The Career Advisor reports directly to the Director of Career Advising.


Using the best practices within career advising, serve undergraduate and graduate students needing assistance with career discernment, assessment, decision making,
career exploration, experiential learning, job search preparation, and overall professional developmentMaintain a strong understanding of industry trends and
the workforce.

Teach a session of the First Year Experience program to several sections.

Contribute to the planning and implementation of key signature initiatives.

Communicate frequently with faculty regarding students needs.


Master’s degree required

7-10 years of career development and/or counseling experience required, preferably in higher education

Strategy development and team management experience preferred

Thrives in an entrepreneurial atmosphere, has a high degree of personal responsibility

Commitment to continuous improvement to ensure the best outcomes, and has unwavering focus on the students we serve

High level ability to collaborate with faculty, students, administrators, and departments campus wide

Collaborative and team focused working style with the ability to multi-task and thrive in a changing, dynamic environment

Knowledge of best practices in student career advisingDeep understanding of the ever-changing workforce and industry trends

Demonstrated evidence of strong and visible leadership skills; successful cross-institutional programming and initiatives; experience in creation of new programs
