Full-Time Asst. Director for Volunteer Services and Community Involvement

Job Description

The Assistant Director of Volunteer Services and Community Involvement in the Center for Leadership and Engagement is responsible to provide direction, promotion and administration of the volunteer and service learning programs to the university community, greater Bloomsburg area and statewide to present a coordinated community service effort for the benefit of students and the community.  The Assistant Director, in close collaboration with the Civic Engagement Coordinator, actively seeks out, develops integrative learning opportunities for students, and establishes the Center for Leadership and Engagement as a campus wide service learning resource center.  The Assistant Director plans, facilitates and provides workshops related to volunteerism and student engagement in support of the CLE Leadership Certification Program and other educational programming.  The Assistant Director will assist the Director of the Center for Leadership and Engagement with the overall facilitation of the Leadership Certification Program and the supervision of both undergraduate students and graduate assistants in various capacities within the Center for Leadership and Engagement.  The incumbent should recognize that this position requires a flexible schedule with significant event and weekend responsibilities.

Duties:

 

  • Design, facilitate and present leadership training and educational workshops for all levels of the certification program related to volunteer services and student involvement
  • Coordinate and develop cohesive, ongoing assessment metrics 9including BOLT) and evaluation of CLE programs, services and student learning outcomes in support of CLE mission and goals
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the campus and surrounding community for volunteering
  • Develop and maintain, in conjunction with Director of CLE, a campus wide volunteer management system, which includes recruitment, training, supervision, recognition and evaluation of volunteers.
  • Advise individual and student groups on connecting with community service agencies and the utilization of HUSKYSYNC and co-curricular transcripts to document and assess their involvement
  • Assist with the coordination and actively participate in annual events including, but not limited to, AGAPE, Animal Shelter, Haunted Husky Hollow, Operation Christmas Child, Operation Snowflake, GACC Safesite, Egg hunt for Endometriosis, Camp Victory, Quest field service and end food drives. Serve as the primary liaison between the Community Government Association/ Community Activities Office and the CLE to assist in the marketing and recruitment of student and organization volunteers in support of CGA’s annual Big Event.
  • Supervise and administer the Students Helping Adolescents Reach Excellence (SHARE) program
  • Serve as advisor to the Volunteer Services Organization and SHARE student organization
  • Coordinate and take lead role in annual events sponsored through CLE that include but are not limited to Empty Bowls, Giving Tree and Kidsfun Carnival
  • Represent and actively participate on campus wide committees including, but not limited to, Blood Drive Advisory Committee, Husky Leadership Summit and Springfest.
  • Promote and educate the university and local community regarding CLE services. This includes establishing and maintaining relationships with service agencies, and school districts for work-study and community service placements.
  • Work collaboratively with the Director of CLE to recognize outstanding student achievement at the annual Leadership and Service luncheon.
  • Administer the Federal Job Location Development Program
  • Administer PHEAA Off Campus Community Service (Federal Work Study) program
  • Develop assessments and maintain data relevant to volunteerism, community service, off campus work-study, internships, etc.
  • Assist with the organization of student retreats and seminars through CLE
  • Assist with hiring, training, scheduling and supervision of 15 student workers and 3 graduate assistants
  • Assist with the establishment of policies, procedures and standards for performance and provide feedback and evaluation
