Full-Time Associate Vice President for Student Life and Dean of Students

Job Description

The University of West Georgia, cited as one of the 15 Most

Magazine and ACPA, is seeking an Associate Vice President
for Student Life and Dean of Students.
The Associate Vice President for Student Life and Dean of
Students, as a member of the division’s senior leadership
team, will report to the Vice President for Student Affairs
and Enrollment Management and provide leadership for the
campus’s Student Life areas. The Associate Vice President
will supervise Housing and Residence Life, Career Services,
Counseling and Accessibility Services, Student Health
Center, the Center for Student Involvement, the Center for
Diversity and Inclusion, the Center for Adult Learning and
Veterans, and University Recreation. Additionally, as the
Dean of Students, the Associate Vice President will
supervise the Student Conduct function and the Campus
Intervention Team. The Associate Vice President will
provide Divisional leadership in establishing goals related
to student life programming, student support services, and
auxiliary functions, and in assessing progress towards
those goals. This includes assisting the Vice President
with budget development and monitoring as well as
maintaining a collaborative relationship with Academic
Affairs and Enrollment Management functions. The Associate
Vice President will provide university leadership on
matters related to creating and maintaining a vibrant
campus life operation, focusing on using student
development theory and practice to keep campus safe and
engaging. The Associate Vice President will coordinate and
implement student life programming activities campus-wide;
and will work closely with all campus constituencies to
develop, implement, and coordinate policies and services
which enhance the academic success of students.
Additionally, the AVP for Student Life will also coordinate
the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and
ongoing professional development of Graduate Assistants
within the division.

Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Higher
Education, Student Affairs, or related area (ABD or
Doctorate preferred); have significant, progressively
responsible experience in higher education at the Director
level or above; understand student development theory and
practice; understand the functions and operations of the
areas supervised; have excellent data analysis skills; have
excellent oral and written communication skills; be highly
collaborative; and demonstrate the ability to work well
with faculty, staff, students, and other stakeholders.
