Full-Time Associate Network Systems Administrator

Job Description

Elizabethtown College is seeking an individual to fill the
role of Associate Network Systems Administrator in the
Department of Information and Technology Services. This
person will work within a small team of 3 in Network
Services and help to provide a wide and diverse range of
network related services for the college.

Network Services frequently works outside of normal business
hours operations, so after hours support and work is a
requirement.

Essential skills for primary job duties
· Perform work in an organized manner with attention to
detail and quality
· Microsoft Active Directory account management
· Configure security settings or access permissions for
groups or individuals
· Identify the causes of networking system issues, using
diagnostic testing software and equipment.
· Ability to document and log daily work routines
· Troubleshoot network or connectivity problems for users or
user groups
· Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to
networking components or equipment
· Install new hardware or software systems or components,
ensuring integration with existing network systems
· Liaison to Client Services and train users in procedures
related to network applications software or related systems
· Resolve and document help desk ticket requests
· Installation, monitoring and supporting various types of
electronic network equipment
· Use of a personal computer for network diagraming and
documentation support
· Configuration Management and implementations as per the
agreed guidelines
· Voice Over IP phone system management
The successful candidate will have knowledge of, and/or be
willing and capable to learn more about:
· Server hardware repair installation and maintenance
· Help Desk ticketing systems
· E-mail systems and spam filters
· Microsoft Active Directory and Exchange Servers
· Virtual Server Designs (VMWare preferable)
· VOIP phone technology (Cisco Call Managers and Unified
Communication preferable)
· Enterprise/Campus environment network concepts and equipment
· Structured Cabling and outside plant concepts
· IT infrastructure Best Practices
· Network monitoring software
· Perform troubleshoot and resolve VOIP systems and VPN
related problems (Cisco VPN Preferable)
· Routing and switching (Cisco Skills Preferable)
· Wireless and BYOD device management
· LAN and WAN management
· Firewall and IPS security (Cisco Skills Preferable)
· Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VMware Preferable)
· Print Management
· Patch Management (KACE Preferable)
· System monitoring
· Configuration and installation of local area network
(LAN), wide area network (WAN), hubs, routers, switches
· Backup systems (Commvault Preferable)
· Disaster recovery site operations
· UPS power solutions
· Inventory management
· Network Access Control system management
· Installation and termination of various types of network
cable types
The Successful Candidate must have the ability to:
· Provide accurate labeling and records of cables, equipment
and work areas
· Learn and apply new technology knowledge to assigned work
· Utilize project-planning tools and plan work
· Establish and maintain effective working relations with
customers, vendors and other divisions of Information
Services Department
· Communicate effectively with customers, vendors,
management and Information Technology Services staff
· Understand safety requirements and keep work areas
uncluttered, clean and with hazards properly identified
· Perform moderately heavy physical work, which includes
lifting items up to sixty pounds
· Work in confined/cramped body positions installing wiring
· Climb a ladder to work at elevations from 4 to 12 feet

Required Training and Experience
Any combination of training and experience, which would
provide the required knowledges and abilities, is
qualifying. A typical way to obtain these knowledges and
abilities would be:
· Graduation from a four year college or a technical school
with a major in Information Technology or related networking
systems and two years of experience.
-Or –
· Completion of two years college with course work in
related field, and four years of experience in data network
installation and support. Additional directly related
qualifying experience may substitute for formal education.
· Certifications from Microsoft and/or Cisco that attest to
technical skills are highly desirable.
