Full-Time Associate Director, Bridging the Gap (13428)

Job Description

The Associate Director designs programming, and in consultation with the director (PI), directs the operational aspects of the Bridging the Gap initiative, a $700,000+ foundation funded program dedicated to connecting research and policy, primarily in the fields of political science and international relations. The associate director manages relations with the funder and serves as the project liaison for six faculty directors and two university subcontractors. The associate director is responsible for ensuring that all initiatives are aligned with the strategic vision of the program and works with the faculty to adjust strategic objectives when needed. The associate director is responsible for all aspects of project design, implementation, and reporting. The program manager is responsible for maintaining and strengthening relationships with a network of over 300 scholars and serves as the point of contact for affiliated policymakers and media experts. The associate director supervises one part-time employee and three to six Bridging the Gap fellows. The program manager plans and executes a number of large conferences annually – developing program agendas, coordinating content creation, identifying speakers, inviting speakers, and carrying out all other event logistics. The associate director is responsible for developing and maintaining all technical and design aspects of the Bridging the Gap website. The Bridging the Gap associate director is responsible for working with an international university partner for the bi-annual New Era International Conference – identifying the partner, establishing a relationship, negotiating cost-share of programming, and creating and executing partnership agreements.

The Associate Director independently prepares project proposals and creates multiple year budgets. The associate director is responsible for tracking and monitoring the Bridging the Gap budget. The associate director conducts program evaluation and assessment and creates and submits reports to the funder. The associate director is responsible for the program’s financial management and all administrative and financial reporting. This position is fully grant funded and contingent on external funds (Bridging the Gap).

Educational Requirements:

Master’s degree is required.

Doctoral degree preferred.
Minimum Requirements:

At least 5 years of relevant work experience.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and to work effectively with diverse constituencies and across
administrative lines is essential.
Demonstrated skills in project management, event planning, budget management, problem-solving and decision-making.
Must be able to work in a highly collaborative environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills are necessary.
Well-developed organizational and time management skills are also essential.
Strong computer skills.
Incumbent must be willing and able to work occasional late nights and/or weekend events.
Position requires occasional lifting and incumbent must be able to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 20 lbs.
Preferred Requirements:
Knowledge of international affairs needed: knowledge of international affairs scholarship a plus Familiarity with website maintenance using a content management system is desirable.
Prior experience in grant writing is also desirable.
