Full-Time Assistant Director, Office of International Education

Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Associate
Director of the Office of International Education (OIE),
the Assistant Director will assist and advise students in
all aspects of studying abroad, from the beginning stages
of selecting a program to ensuring that their return back
to Harvard is a smooth one. The Assistant Director will
also work closely with students, academic departments, and
study abroad programs and international universities on the
credit transfer process. Additional responsibilities
include aiding with the design, implementation, and
management of administrative, software and recordkeeping
systems; data analysis; keeping up-to-date on study abroad
opportunities, including summer programs; communicate
regularly with program providers, other US universities,
and foreign universities offering study abroad programs.
Serve as an adviser for information on study abroad funding
sources at Harvard as well as national study abroad
scholarships. With Associate Director and other staff,
manage communication with students on-campus and abroad,
develop print and web materials, workshops, information
sessions and manage special programs. Develop outreach
activities and participate in development of a strategy for
promoting international study abroad across campus.
Represent the office at professional conferences and site
visits as needed. Additional duties and projects as

Data analysis: Working with other OIE staff, the Assistant
Director would provide leadership in the analysis of study
abroad student data, language citation data, and
concentration data at Harvard, both for internal use and
for annual external reports.

Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and at least three
years of experience in international study advising and
academic administration. Previous experience in advising
and working with undergraduates. Experience with setting up
management systems. Experience with office technologies,
including spreadsheet, database and web-editing programs.
Experience with study abroad program evaluation.

Additional Qualifications: Master’s degree preferred. Must
have experience studying or working abroad and fluency in
at least one foreign language. Ability to communicate
effectively with students, faculty, and other members of
the academic community. Demonstrated organizational skills;
excellent communication, listening, and writing skills.
Ability to be self-directed and work in a team, and
collaborate with students, faculty and staff. Must be well
organized and comfortable manipulating data. Enthusiasm for
the mission of undergraduate education and appreciation of
the value of international experience for college students.


Education:      Master’s Degree Preferred
Work Experience:      3-5 Years
