Full-Time Assistant Director for Financial Aid

Job Description

Services (SFS), to ensure access and affordability for MIT
students by reviewing financial aid applications;
determining financial aid eligibility; awarding financial
aid; and counseling students and parents on financial aid
policies, procedures, programs, and related issues. Will be
assigned an alpha-split caseload and review approximately
800 financial aid applications annually; be responsible for
understanding and complying with policies, practices, and
procedures related to institutional, federal, state and
private financial aid programs; and serve a resource for
advice and assistance to the entire MIT community,
representing SFS and working collaboratively with colleagues
to support recruitment and retention efforts. Will report to
the senior associate director for financial aid.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; five years of progressively
responsible financial aid experience with expertise in
counseling, federal and institutional need analysis, and
application of professional judgment; ability to read,
understand, interpret, and apply Institute, federal and
state rules and regulations; high levels of discretion and
judgment when handling personal, financial, and at times
medical information of a confidential nature; excellent
interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and presentation
skills; commitment to developing connections with and
providing superb customer service to clients through respect
and commitment; and accountability for own work and for
building customer confidence in SFS and the Institute as a
whole. Seek an active listener who is able to document
client interaction accurately, make decisions when dealing
with individualized problems, set priorities, and manage
workload in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
Knowledge of and expertise with automated student
information and financial aid systems needed. PowerFAIDS
