Full-Time Assistant Director for Civic Engagement

Job Description

Job Purpose The Civic Engagement & Leadership department at Towson University is accepting applications for an Assistant Director for Civic Engagement to coordinate civic engagement programs to ensure students, faculty, and staff are provided with experiences for political and environmental/sustainability educational opportunities; research innovative programs to bring onto TU’s Campus that foster a better understanding of civic learning and democratic engagement; engage with students through participation in campus and community events; establish partnerships for programs with campus departments; provide information to the campus community regarding civic engagement programs, initiatives, and accomplishments; assess the effectiveness of civic engagement programs; and develop ways to enhance the experience of programs for the campus community.
Description
Supervise the Coordinator of Community Engagement and one Graduate Student by providing direction, coordination, and consultation for their responsibilities in the areas of civic engagement and environmental initiatives. Work with Student & Academic Affairs to support staff/faculty-lead civic initiatives including: New York Times Talks, Star-Spangled September, Voter Registration, and facilitating campus conversations on Freedom Square and special events. Work with appropriate campus and community partners to respond to inquiries from Political and Environmental agencies. Work with Housing & Residence Life and the Department of Political Science to enhance the residential learning community Political engagement. Develop year-round service opportunities for students who live on the residential learning community floor. Supervising student interns by providing direction and ensuring a meaningful learning experience. Identify and implement appropriate evaluation procedures to measure the impact of civic engagement programs on the community and campus participants, including but not limited to: research best practices for evaluating community impact, administering evaluations, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports to communicate findings. Work with the Office of Sustainability to coordinate environmental and sustainability programs such as: Eco-reps, sustainability day, Environmental Conference, Recycle Mania, and the Retreat for Environmental Action. Organize all operations for TEDxTowson. Assist with other duties within the Division of Student Affairs as assigned

Qualifications
Master’s degree and two years of experience. The selected candidate must have knowledge of higher education settings; experience with civic engagement, community engagement, and initiatives; experience working with diverse student populations, committed to continuous learning, development, and research on current trends and best practices; and ability to work with a wide range of students, staff, and faculty in a diverse college setting.

Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling, or a closely related field and proficiency in Spanish or other languages, in addition to English.
