Full-Time Assistant Dean / Director of Student Rights & Responsibilities

Job Description

The Assistant Dean/Director of Student Rights and
Responsibilities reports to the Associate Dean of
Students and is a member of the Dean of Students
leadership team. The Assistant Dean is responsible for
the overall leadership, management, and administration of
the student conduct system for non-academic violations of
the Student Conduct Code for undergraduate and graduate
students, and student organizations.

•Interacts with and educates students regarding their
rights and responsibilities as members of the University
community as documented in the Student Conduct Code.
Leads resolution of alleged violations and ensures
adherence to Code. Oversees the assessment and follow
through of cases involving mediation. Screens University
applicants with student conduct records for admission
and/or readmission clearance.

•Oversees the implementation and development of student
rights and responsibilities program initiatives.
Researches and assists with development of corresponding
policies and procedures. Recruits and hires OPS employees
and assists with hiring of reporting staff. Provides
internal training and completes performance evaluations
as needed.

•Develops, maintains, evaluates and presents extensive
training to students, faculty and staff to ensure proper
education of the University community related to the
Code. Prepares workshops, presentations, publications and
various other forms of educational material.

•Acts as a liaison with the Student Conduct Board and
assists with the selection of student conduct board
members and sanction follow-up. Oversees the Student
Conduct Greek board in conjunction with the Office of
Fraternity/Sorority. Coordinates with the University
Housing student conduct program and collaborates with the
Victim Advocate Program as necessary.

•Serves as an advisor to students alleged to be in
violation of the Academic Honor Policy.

•Maintains confidential files and interprets the release
of these records in accordance with applicable laws,
policies and procedures.

•Reviews and updates/revises the Code as needed.
Distributes copies of the Code and ensures that it is
appropriately publicized.

A Master’s Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education or
related field and two years related experience. Superior
written and verbal communication skills, as well as the
ability to present his/her views in a clear manner.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize workflow and manage
multiple tasks and functions simultaneously. Experience
dealing with crises and managing sensitive information.
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking based upon in-
depth, substantiating information, considering and
respecting others input, personal values, and ethics.
Experience developing and implementing policies,
procedures, goals, and objectives. Ability to establish
and maintain effective working relationships. Experience
hiring, training and supervising employees. Experience
utilizing problem solving skills and conflict resolution
skills. Knowledge of the principles and practices of
student program planning, development and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Federal Legislation governing student
records and experience in victim rights in student
conduct proceedings, including Title IX, Violence Against
Women Act, and Campus Sexual Violence Elimination Act.
