Full-Time Area Director

Job Description

Residential Life Area Director, Residential Life Programs,to assume a live-in position responsible for furthering the mission of MIT, the Division of Student Life, and the Department of Residential Education. The MIT residential
system has a long history of partnership among faculty, staff, and students to create a vibrant atmosphere for
living and learning. Each house is led by a live-in house team that is comprised of a head of house, an area director, and graduate resident tutors (GRTs). Students play a significant role in building community in the residences through strong house governments and a variety of student-led activities and programs. The result is a distinct residential culture that supports independent and diverse house communities. Will assume broad responsibility for the wellbeing of the residents, working collaboratively with the full house team to cultivate an inclusive community. Responsibilities include strengthening the network of support for students; helping the heads of house, GRTs, and students in their roles as community leaders; fostering a diverse and welcoming environment; facilitating the resolution of group and individual conflicts; upholding expectations for conduct aligned with MIT policies and practices; and helping students make meaning of their MIT experience and providing guidance and support to individuals and groups around personal and social issues with the goal of promoting personal and academic success.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: a master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, social work (MSW), or other education counseling-related field; a minimum of two years of full-time experience in residential life/student affairs life; and experience in leadership development, advising, crisis intervention, counseling, and residential education.
