Full-Time Area Coordinator

Job Description

The Area Coordinator for Residential Education is a
12-month, live-in position, responsible for supporting the
departmental mission through the supervision of 9-14
paraprofessional staff members and the administration of a
residence area of approximately 400-600 students. Special
emphasis is placed upon the role of the Area Coordinator as
an educator, promoting a meaningful integration of academic
and residential life. Each Area Coordinator is responsible
for a unique neighborhood of residences. These neighborhoods
may include a mixture of traditional residence halls,
apartment-style housing and/or themed houses. The Area
Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Residential
Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In traditional residence halls, supervise, evaluate and
develop 9-14 resident assistants, which includes one senior
resident assistant. In theme houses, supervise, evaluate and
develop 15-20 house managers (paraprofessional staff
responsible for community development of their specific
theme house).
Actively participate in recruitment, selection, training,
and evaluation of paraprofessional staff.
Oversee a specific neighborhood of residences ranging from
400-600 undergraduate students.
Act as liaison with the faculty, deans, community, and
appropriate college offices through attendance at community
functions and professional committees.
Participate in campus-wide programming efforts by
professional and student staff.
Collaborate with other offices to engage students in campus
programming initiatives.
Coordinate openings and closings, maintain occupancy
records, develop building inventories, facilitate room
changes, and manage damage billing for the area.
Serve as a judicial hearing officer for students referred
for policy violations.
Respond to students and parents with issues and concerns.
Serve as a mediator for roommate conflicts.
Participate in a 24-hour, Monday through Sunday, on-call
duty rotation between 2-3 times per semester.
Participate in a self-directed collateral assignment with an
office outside the Office of Residential Education for up to
ten hours per week.
Actively participate in at least two interdepartmental
committees each year (i.e. RA Selection, RA Training,
Professional Staff Training, Professional Staff Recruitment,
Housing Selection)
Perform duties pertaining to fire safety including fire
drills, fire safety checks, building walkthroughs, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in
Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel,
Counseling or a related field and one to three years
residence life experience preferred; or a bachelor’s degree
and full-time experience in residence hall administration
required. Energy and enthusiasm for working in a
collaborative, vibrant and creative environment is a must.
Sense of humor and flexibility with the day-to-day
activities and demands of a residential campus will be
beneficial.

OTHER INFORMATION:

This is a full-time, 12-month, live-in, benefits-eligible
administrative position. Compensation includes salary, a
furnished apartment, local phone, cable, assigned parking
space, campus gym membership, 100 meal plan during the
academic year, and the Colleges’ comprehensive benefits
package. The Colleges allow a partner/spouse to reside in
housing and also allows for one approved pet (one dog, cat,
caged bird, or maximum 50 gallon aquarium). Professional
development funds are also available. This position
